Description

“Seasons of Landlocked Salmon” by Dave Whitlock

Landlocked salmon go through a wide range of color changes throughout the year.

Winter: Kelts are lean and a dull chrome-pewter color. Spring: Salmon that remain in rivers after winter grow robust, brightly colored and marked by feeding on smelt and aquatic and terrestrial insects.

Summer: The salmon that return to their lake habitat become heavier and brightly chrome-plated.

Fall: From September to November, landlocks move up into their rivers to spawn. They transform into a rich chroma of colors and heavy spotting, similar to their brown trout relatives.
