Product Description

“The Upright Hair Wings”   by Dave Whitlock

The classic ‘upright hair-wing dry fly’ is a heavily dressed, floating fly which suggests a mayfly dun or spinner.  They were originated in 1930 by Lee Wulff (1905-1991) mainly to fish the  fast-flowing, freestone rivers of the Northeastern US and Canadian

Lee wanted a fly that would float well and hold up to heavy use of 50 or more trout catches per day. He chose the durable hair from the tail of the white-tail deer to make the two thick and bushy upright wings and tail. His designs, such as the Royal Wulff, and the many variations created both by Lee and others, have become some of the most enduring and well know fly patterns of our time.

Art is a big 20 X 24 inches and is on archival, high-quality art board.

Original art piece, hand-drawn by Dave.  The media is one of his favorites – fine art pencil – because he loves the detail and brilliant colors he can coax from his pencils.

Unframed.
